When I copy a set of files (ca. 90 files, in sum 3.5MB) from an Internet FTP server to a folder mounted from a SMB server, the transfer speed is extremely low, especially if the volume is mounted via the WLAN. It took about 20 minutes for a WLAN mounted volume, 3 minutes if the volume is mounted via the 1GB network.
Normal file copies from the MacBook to the same volume are fast.
When I copy the same set of files from the FTP server to a folder on the local hard disk, the transfer is complete nearly instantly.
