When I upload a large file (in my case, 3.78 GB) to one of my Cloud Files containers, Cyberduck chews up a bunch of CPU but nothing happens. No noticeable network traffic is sent.

Please post the transcript from View → Log Drawer. Can you find any related output in the console.log (/Applications/Utilities/Console.app)?

This issue is caused because it takes that long to calculate the MD5 hash of the file.

In c141499 we now have a progress message while the MD5 is calculated. Performance for Cloud Files might be slightly better due to the use of a buffered input stream to read from the file. Also affects S3.
