Recently I got a "Permission denied" error, when I tried to write back a text file from TextWrangler (my assigned external editor) to the server. TextWrangler thought it is saved and let me close the file. So all changes were gone. It would make sense to let the external editor know if the write access was successful to prevent losing an unsaved document.

This very difficult to implement as in fact the file is saved successfully to the disk from the editor point of view.
