Description (last modified by dkocher)

If one has an unsecure connection using FTP, should one switch to FTP-SSL (Explicit Auth TLS)? I tried this and got the following message:

220 dot5hosting FTP Server Ready
AUTH TLS
500 AUTH not understood

Is this an issue with my web hosting service?

Thanks,

The provider does not support secured connections with TLS. Cyberduck will only prompt you to change the connection type to FTP with TLS if it is advertised by the server in response to the FEAT command. Documented in our wiki.

Thanks for your reply. So, in my case, how do I achieve a secure connection? I never used to have that issue.

Ask your hosting service provider to support TLS for FTP connections.

I called them and they do provide TLS for FTP connections. They told me I need to use "SFTP://ftp.the-property.com" as the server. Does this sound familiar? Again, I've not had the issue of an unsecured connection until recently.

Change the protocol in the bookmark to SFTP instead of FTP-TLS.

The link and info supplied is not accessible:

"Change the protocol in the bookmark to SFTP instead of FTP- TLS."

I tried connecting through SFTP (SSH File Transfer Protocol) but the connection fails. Is there further information that can be provided?

Thanks,
