(this is happening in v5.3.9 - 23624, not 5.3.5 which is the latest option I can select)

How to repro:

  • Open an S3 bucket
  • Look for a file with Everyone READ permission
  • Click Edit With/... and open an editor
  • Modify the file and save it
  • Check the permissions again - the READ permission has been removed

FWIW, I edited a text file with BBEdit and as well as the public ACL, the owner had FULL_CONTROL (this permission remained intact).

Please check Preferences → Transfers → Permissions → Upload → Change Permissions.

Uploads Change Permissions is unchecked (everything here should be at install defaults)
